Your Signature Style

Your Signature Style

It takes 7 seconds for someone to develop a solid impression of you.

News flash: we’re in 2020. So can we please for the love of lipstick ditch the notion that ‘professional business attire’ for a woman means a clunky black suit, stockings, and little-to-no makeup? If we’re only given 7 seconds to make a first impression, I’m going to use every tool available to me to show people who I am. Give me textures, give me statement earrings, give me a bold lip color.

There are ways to maintain your level of professionalism while showcasing your unique personality. And in a world of increasing competition, your unique personal brand is CRITICAL for standing out in a sea of sameness. What sets you apart from someone with all the same credentials as you? Your flair! Experience and skills are only part of the puzzle when it comes to getting the job or landing the client - people work with people, not resumes.

In this week’s episode of Do What You Can For The People, I chat with my best friend and style icon, Hillary Weiss. We talk about why personal style matters if you’re a professional woman, how our style has evolved over the years (including a highly embarrassing slide show of our best college lewks), and some of our top tips and tricks for expressing yourself through fashion.

Apart from being my best friend and life partner, Hillary is a brand consultant, speaker, creative director, and founder of Statement Piece Studio @ hillaryweiss.com. She’s helped thousands of brands all over the world get seen and heard (and make serious cash) through her 1-1 client work, writing, coaching, and videos. Nowadays, she’s on a mission to help more small businesses define their “statement piece”, a.k.a. the bold point of view that makes them radically relevant to their perfect people.

Check out the video below and enjoy 30-ish minutes of classic Hillary & Nicole banter. It’s honestly something that we’ve perfected over the last 10+ years and I am so glad that we finally did a web series episode together!
